Since this whole investigation started because of the connection Bella had made to her mum’s music experiences and how she had been quick to judge and forget, it seemed only right to sit down with her and the other women from her family to listen.

Bella talks with mums from very different walks of life and experiences about their music experiences, memories, connections and how, if at all, this has changed during motherhood. Looking at how perceptions of their music tastes and opinions were seen differently after becoming mothers and why they feel this is the case. Talking with Georgina, a mother with adult children, about her love of live shows and exploring different genres, Jodie, a 52 year old mother, and Jade, a 35 year old mother, about how they their opinions are less valued as mothers and Carly, a 52 year old mother, whose family owned the only record store in their small town.

Bella, inspired by a night of going through old vinyls with her mum, explores the reasons we tend to forget about or undervalue mums’ ability to influence our music tastes and their musical experiences. She takes to the street to see if this forgertfulness is a common issue and talks to music industry professionals, academics, mothers and Music, Mothers and Others podcast producers and hosts Shelley Brunt and Liz Guiffre to talk about the reasons this may be the case.
